So here we are. Another day in the sun of southern California. I wonder if I should have capitalized the "s" in southern. Never you mind though. It's still what it is, capitalized or not.
Lately, I've been trying to capitalize on loads of free time in my essentially jobless life. It seems I am much better about worrying about finding more work though and so I continually search the web for new and exciting opportunities. But nothing sticks to this web. It is more of a void that I toss resumes into, never to be heard from again.
This shouldn't concern me. Almost all work I have ever obtained has been through connections. Starting with my brother getting me a job at Mc D's. I currently have a couple connections in the works, I'm just biding my time.
Why is it always connections? I have this theory that my generally reserved self that appears at first impressions scares off any potential bidders. They either think I'm a killer or just really boring, and who wants to work with that?
Truthfully, I suspect my jobs are obtained through connections for everyone. It's much safer and more comforting to hire someone you know. Probably more fun too. You can talk about the old times instead of working.
That being said. I now aspire to use all this time to write. Books and screen plays and mock trailers, and short stories and articles about football. What fun it shall be.
